Health Department organises Deworming Day in city

The District Health Department under Civil Surgeon Dr Hari Nariyan Singh on Friday celebrated National De-worming Day at Government Senior Secondary School at Sanjay Nagar and Prayaas International School at Red Cross in Bathinda.

The Civil Surgeon started the drive by giving albendazole tablets to students. Addressing the students, he said it was a must for children aged 1-19 to take these tablets and children of government, private schools and anganwadis would be given these tablets under the drive.

He said the taste of this tablet was sweet and it had to be taken after lunch. It should be noted that this tablet should not be taken on an empty stomach.

District vaccination officer Dr Kundan Kumar Pal said albendazole tablets were given to students to protect them from life-threatening worms as these worms had a bad impact on their health as children could suffer shortage of blood and malnutrition. He presence of worms in the stomach could even lead to children feeling weakness, stomach ache, vomiting and other problems.

He said students who were not able to take tablet on August 10, would be given the tablet now in the makeup round on August 17.

Urban nodal officer Dr Pamil Bansal said, “We should go for defecation in the open as it increases the production of worms in the stomach. These worms go inside the body through unhygienic food. He appealed to children to wash their hands properly before having food and after defecation.

Deputy mass media officer Kulwant Singh said these tablets were fully safe and it did not have any side-effects. One tablet was every important for the all-round development of children.

RBSK Dr Kapil Mittall, principal Sunita Rani, principal Palak, district BCC Narinder Kumar, BEE Harvinder Singh, school health coordinator Manful Singh and others were present.
