Bathinda, October 16

The vigilance cell of the Local Bodies Department from Chandigarh inspected the Municipal Corporation office here on Tuesday.

Afour-member team headed by Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) Sudeep Manik carried out the inspection. Vigilance officers Neeraj Bhatti, Mahinder Pal and Ishan Goyal were part of the team.

The team checked records of the building branch, B&R branch, Tehbazari branch and account branch. It also sought details of the complaints received by the civic body in the past three years. MC officials were also asked about action taken on them. The vigilance officials took some records with them.

The vigilance team questioned MC officials about various projects and files. Besides checking a few buildings, the team also inspected Green City Colony and Krishna Colony.

However, the team refused to disclose anything about its visit, but the MC officials said it was a routine checking. It is learnt that Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had received many complaints against the MC and a large number of them pertained to illegal buildings.

The minister was told that complaints marked to MC officials were not addressed properly as no action had been taken on them.

It is also learnt that the CVO had summoned building branch officials, including an XEN and SDO, with all records of six-category constructed few building maps and some colonies.

A few months ago, the MC had tabled proposals for taking over private colonies or conducting development works in the colonies built by private builders in the city.

Thereafter, a city resident had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Chief Minister’s Office. It further marked a probe to the Local Bodies Department.

It is learnt that the vigilance team visited Green City Colony and Krishna Colony located on the Malout road after complaints in this regard.
