Bathinda, October 21

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath has written a letter to Air Marshal SB Deo, Vice-Chief of the Indian Air Force, requesting for providing a decommissioned fighter plane which will be placed at a chowk in Bathinda city.

Further, he said by placing an old fighter plane would inspire feelings of patriotism among citizens, particularly among children, so they could learn that their mother and motherland was superior to heaven. Besides, children could always be ready to sacrifice their own interests for the good of the country.

Apart from this, the Mayor said the city boasted of important places like the Asia’s largest Army cantonment, refinery, NFL, two thermal plants, two cement plants. The city has the biggest cotton market in the region.

The Mayor urged the air force official to direct the authorities concerned to provide a decommissioned fighter plane at the earliest.

It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first time that the Mayor has written a letter for such a demand.

Earlier he had written a letter to the Railway Minister, asking that they wanted to install an old steam engine in the city. So, he asked them to provide an old engine to the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda.

Replying to the letter, the Railways had written a letter to the Mayor in which the department had stated that at present, they did not have an old steam engine for beautification purpose, but they did have a narrow-gauge diesel locomotive, which could be installed in the city.

The Mayor again wrote a letter to the Railways, thanking them for a reply and stated that they were ready to install a narrow-gauge diesel locomotive in the city. He said all the formalities in this regard would be completed at the earliest.

Even the Mayor had also written a letter to the Union Defence Minister demanding Army tanks to be kept at Fauji Chowk in the city. Later, instead of tanks, an aircraft gun was installed at Shaheed Nand Singh Chowk (Fauji Chowk) in the city.
