BATHINDA: The election for the 88-year-old Sri Sanatan Dharm (SSD) Sabha and its educational institutes were held on the SSD Girls College campus on Sunday.



BATHINDA: The election for the 88-year-old Sri Sanatan Dharm (SSD) Sabha and its educational institutes were held on the SSD Girls College campus on Sunday. The election, which was considered to be a neck and neck fight between two groups, was conducted peacefully. Advocate Manohar Lal Gupta group’s candidate CA Pramod Mittal won the president’s post by defeating incumbent president advocate Abhey Singla with 23 votes. Pramod Mittal has been elected as president of the sabha for the fourth time. After announcement of the election result in which Pramod Mittal was elected, the opposite group candidate advocate Somnath Baghla withdrew his nomination for the president for the SSD educational institutes. Afterwards, Parmod Mittal group’s candidate advocate Sanjay Goyal was elected unopposed. SSD Sabha has total 194 members, who can cast their votes, but on Sunday, 189 votes were polled as four votes were cancelled and one voter remained absent. TNS

Youth dies in road mishap

Malout: A 22-year-old youth on Saturday night died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a vehicle parked on a road near Chhapianwali village. The deceased has been identified as Bikramjit Singh, a native of Kolianwali village near here. Sources said the boy died on the spot. The police have started investigation in this regard. TNS

Man found dead

Malout: A 25-year-old man from Khuiyan Sarwar village in Fazilka district, presently living in Malout town, was found lying dead on Sunday under mysterious circumstances near a public toilet under the railway over-bridge. The Malout (City) police have started proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. Earlier, deceased Gagan Deep’s father Ramesh Kumar had informed the police that his son was unwell. TNS
