Bathinda, February 21

Students and faculty members of Central University of Punjab observed International Mother Tongue Day here on Thursday.

As many as 50 students participated and presented linguistic richness and diversity of India through art and cultural programs in more than 15 Indian languages. The university has students from across 27 states of India and is also called as ‘Mini India’ of the region.

Dr Shahila Zafar delivered the welcome address and Dr Rajinder Kumar introduced the program theme. Various performances were presented in the form of poems, songs, dance, ghazals and speeches by students in Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Kashmiri, Dogri, Khasi, Hindi, Malayalam, Himachali, Haryanvi, Oriya, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil, Rajasthani and Bangla languages during the event.
