Bathinda, July 9

A 19-year-old GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) student committed suicide under mysterious circumstances by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in a hostel room of GNM Training School during early morning hours on Monday.

After receiving information, the Civil Lines and Kotwali police reached the spot and started investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Jaspreet Kaur from Jajjal village in Talwandi Sabo, who was a student of GNM second year.

The police got the post-mortem conducted at the Civil Hospital and handed over the body to the family.

The deceased left a suicide note behind wherein she did not disclose the reason behind the extreme step.

The note said no one from her family or the training school be questioned about her death and her body be handed over to the family.

According to the principal of the training school, Gurdeep Kaur, “Jaspreet had returned from her home on Saturday after a week-long vacation. As per her hostel mates, she was normal in the evening and after spending time with them, she had her dinner and went to her room. In the morning at 7 am, when housekeeping staff knocked at her room’s door, nobody answered. When they forced open the door, Kaur was found hanging from the ceiling fan. She used her ‘duppatta’ to commit suicide.”

Later, her family members were informed about the incident and they came to the Civil Hospital.

Investigating officer Davinder Singh, in-charge at the Kotwali police station, said, “After recording statement of the family members of the deceased, we have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and initiated investigation into the matter. After post-mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to the family members.”
