Muktsar: The Muktsar police have arrested a resident of Burj Sidhwan village in Malout subdivision for allegedly running a sex determination racket. The accused was arrested after a complaint lodged by the Civil Surgeon, Muktsar. Notably, a team of the Health Department from Sirsa in Haryana had laid a trap on Tuesday and arrested Roshan Lal with Rs 33,000. His accomplice Jatin, however, managed to gave the team the slip. The police said a man had been arrested, but they could not identify the doctor as the other accused managed to escape. A case under various Sections of the PC-PNDT Act has been registered. TNS
Three booked for Rs 7-lakh fraud
Tarn Taran: Three members of a family of Noorpur Rajputan (Kapurthala) village have been booked by the Goindwal Sahib police for allegedly defrauding a villager of Rs 7 lakh with a promise of getting him settled abroad. The victim, identified as Ramanpreet Singh of Jahangir village, informed the police that Kuldip Singh, his father Malook Singh and uncle Dilbag Singh lured him into giving them such a huge amount of money a few years ago. The complainant alleged that the accused neither kept their promise nor returned the money. The police said a case was registered against the accused. OC
