Bathinda, December 6

Members of a family, who were allegedly beaten up by their son-in-law and his brother outside the district courts complex on Monday, alleged dilution of case claiming that the MLR (medico legal report) didn’t mention that victims were attacked by sharp-edged weapons.

To express their resentment over the handling of the case, Rupinder Kaur, daughter of Gurdeep Singh, along with other family members and lawyer representing their case, conducted a press conference at the Bathinda Press Club on Thursday.

Notably, Rupinder’s husband and his brother had allegedly thrashed her family members on Monday over a matrimonial dispute.

Vijay Kumar, the lawyer representing the case from the victim’s side, said, “Police personnel, in connivance with a doctor at the Civil Hospital, have diluted the case by not mentioning in the MLR that the parents and family members of Rupinder Kaur were attacked with sharp-edged weapon. Due to this the case was registered under Section 308 of the IPC (attempt to commit culpable homicide). If the MLR had mentioned that the victims were attacked with sharp-edged weapons then a case under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) would have been registered against the accused.”

Kumar added, “By diluting our case, it is clear that the police and doctor concerned at the Civil Hospital are trying to save the accused in the matter.”

Rupinder Kaur said, “We request the Bathinda SSP to investigate the matter thoroughly as an FIR has been registered against the accused on our incomplete statements.”

The police have registered an FIR against Arun Kumar and Sukha under Sections 308, 323 and 34 of the IPC for attacking the parents and family members of Rupinder Kaur.
