Police seize illicit liquor, 8 held

BATHINDA: The police seized illicit liquor and arrested eight smugglers from different locations of the city in the past 24 hours.

The police seized illicit liquor and arrested eight smugglers from different locations of the city in the past 24 hours.

In the first case, the police seized 136 boxes of Haryana brand liquor during checking near a drain at Jassi Baghwali village.

A person identified as Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Mehma Bhagwana village, was arrested while another accused Lakhvir Singh of the same village escaped from the spot. The police have registered a case at the Sangat police station.

In the second case, the police seized 132 bottles of Haryana brand liquor during checking from two persons on the Dabwali road. Those arrested have been identified as Jaswant Singh and Mandeep Singh, residents of Bajakhana.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Sangat police station.

In the third, the police seized 40 lts of illicit liquor during checking at Teona village. A person, identified as Lal Singh, a resident of Bir Talab village, was arrested from the spot. The police have registered a case against the accused at the Bathinda Sadar police station.

In the fourth case, the police seized 60 bottles of Haryana-made liquor from a person during checking at Chak Attar Singhwala village. The accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh of Peori village. A case has been registered at the Nandgarh police station.

In the fifth case, the police seized 60 bottles of Haryana-made liquor from a person during checking at Pitho village. The police succeeded in arresting one person, who has been identified as Harvinder Singh of Pitho village.

The police have registered a case against the accused at the Rampura Sadar police station.

In the sixth case, the police seized 20 bottles of Haryana made liquor along with a motorcycle (without registration) during checking at Singo village. The accused, identified as Ram Singh and Sukhdeep Singh of Mansa, were nabbed from the spot.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Talwandi Sabo police station.
