Bathinda, December 2

Irked over not getting salary on time, Powercom employees staged a joint protest outside the SDO office in Sirki bazaar here on Monday.

During the protest, employees raised slogans against Powercom, Punjab Government and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal. To pacify the protesters, SDO Rohit Kumar also reached the spot.

The protest was headed by district president of the employees’ union Ram Lal and secretary Ajiab Singh Sohal. Addressing the protesters, they said for the past two months, there had been delay in releasing their salaries. They said their pay roll was prepared 15th of every month, but Powercom was not depositing salaries in their accounts on time.

They said they had not received their DA for 23 months.

The protesters said Powercom and the state government had deliberately stopped the salaries of the employees.

They added that the pay commission report should be implemented at the earliest. The protesters said both neighboring states Haryana and Rajasthan were paying salaries after implementing the seventh pay commission report.

The Powercom employees threatened an agitation against the state government at a mass level in the coming days if their demands were not met.
