A book depicting a different story of the partition of India, based on the relationship of Indian National Congress (INC) and the Muslim League, was launched here in a city hotel on Saturday.

The book, titled ‘Seeds of Separation’, has been authored by Som Prakash, who hails from Bathinda. He is working as principal of Dashmesh International Public School (DIPS), Malout. During the launch, Prakash gave information related to the book. He said the work was a result of the extensive research that he had done on the topic. The lack of information and knowledge among common people regarding the events leading to the partition made him write the book.

He said, “The book dwells upon the day-to-day rivalry among the leaders of the INC and those of the Muslim League. The way the leaders defied the prevailing theories of Hindu-Muslim unity and manipulation by them led to the widening of the gap between the two communities. Eventually, the British, taking advantage of the rift, paved the way for the partition.”

The author has mentioned events that were significant for the smooth sailing of the freedom movement, to prove the fact that more than the British, it was the Indian leaders who were bent upon creating a divide among people for their vested interests.

According to the author, the book was a result of the perusal of some rare historical documents and quotes that interpret the circumstances, differences, intrigue and pretence of the Indian leadership, which eventually resulted in the partition of a great nation, a great culture and a great historical entity.

Som Prakash said he considered partition to be the most incredible event of the 20th century, where a nation was divided on false religious theories. — TNS
