Bathinda, October 22

Residents on Monday took out a protest march to pay tributes and expressed condolences to the victims of the Amritsar train tragedy that took place during the Dasehra celebrations on Friday.

People gathered at the Fire brigade chowk and from where they passed through various markets in the city.

Deputy Mayor and BJP leader Gurinderpal Kaur Mangat said, “We are taking out this candle march to request the authorities to make strong guidelines for Ramlilas from next time onwards. Such a tragic incident never happened during the Dasehra celebrations in the past. We are really upset with what has happened in Amritsar. Hope, the government will take appropriate action in this regard.”

A resident, Shikhar Goyal, said the accident was very tragic and heart-wrenching. “We are paying an emotional tribute to those who died in the Amritsar train mishap.”

It is pertinent to mention that 59 persons lost their lives and 57 others were injured after a local passenger train ran over a crowd watching the Dasehra celebrations in Choura Bazar of Amritsar on Friday. — TNS
