Ahead of the festival season, samples of many eating joints and sweet shops in the city failed the purity test conducted by the Health Department. Around 24 out of the 140 samples taken in the last two months failed the purity test.

The Health Department has started initiating action against those whose samples failed the test. They informed them of the results of the report.

The Food Branch of Health Department had taken around 140 food samples from various places in the city in September and August months, which were later sent to the lab for testing.

As per the figures, out of the 65 samples taken in September, five failed the test. Of the 75 food samples taken in August, 19 failed the test, while the reports of a few are still awaited.

The “paneer” sample taken from a restaurant, Rasoi, located on the Dabwali road near Doomwali failed and was found below the eating parameters.

Even the curd sample of La Comida bar and restaurant located on 100 Feet Road failed the test as it was found sub-standard, reveals the district health officer.

Apart from this, roasted burfi sample from Bala Ji Bikaner Misthan located near Ghore Wala Chowk also failed.

Similarly, sample of Madhu Ratan desi ghee taken from a shop in Bharat Nagar failed. Even ghee sample of a dairy located on the Multania road showed that it was sub-standard.

DHO Dr Ashok Monga said the health team had taken a sample of toned milk from Garg Chilling Center, Goniana, which failed the purity test.

The Health department also took samples of Home Utsav desi ghee and Home Day cooking oil from A-33 Industrial Area on the Mansa road and samples of both desi ghee and oil failed the test.

District Health Officer Dr Ashok Monga said, “As the samples failed, the department was planning to lodge a case against them.”

He appealed to residents that if they found adulteration in food items at any food joint or shop, then they should immediately lodge a complaint with them, so that the department could take timely action in this regard.

The failing of food samples of different shops in the city led to confusion among city residents ahead of the festival season.
