Students rally to highlight ill-effects of stubble burning

SANGRUR: Fearing degradation of the environment in the coming days due to stubble burning and its ill effects, students of various schools on Friday conducted awareness rallies across the district and tried their level best to apprise farmers of the ill-effects of stubble burning.

Fearing degradation of the environment in the coming days due to stubble burning and its ill effects, students of various schools on Friday conducted awareness rallies across the district and tried their level best to apprise farmers of the ill-effects of stubble burning.

Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla has directed schools to organise such rallies to check stubble burning.

As per information, following the directions of government, students of more than 300 schools in rural areas of the district today organised rallies from 9 am to 10 am against the stubble burning. Carrying placards in their hands for not burning stubble, students crossed through various parts of villages and also tried their level best to convince farmers against stubble burning.

“We hope the message of students would have impact over farmers and they would shun stubble burning,” said Subhash Chandra, District Education Officer (Secondary).

District Education Officer (Elementary) Paramjit Kaur said students of primary schools have also participated in the awareness campaign against stubble problem.

Sangrur DC Ghanshayam Thori said the rallies by students would definitely put a impact on farmers.

“We are hopeful that the message of school students would produce results. Such rallies should be organised at villages regularly to spread awareness against stubble burning,” said DC Thori.
