Undertrial flees from custody

BATHINDA: A 25-year-old woman undertrial escaped from the police custody at the OPD building in the Civil Hospital here.

A 25-year-old woman undertrial escaped from the police custody at the OPD building in the Civil Hospital here.

As per information, Constable Manjit Kaur, who was accompanying Amandeep Kaur Mahi, a resident of Lambi area in Muktsar district, the undertrial, went to the washroom leaving her all alone in the OPD block. Taking advantage of this, Mahi fled from the spot.

The woman, along with her husband, was booked in a rape case and the couple had been shifted to the Bathinda Central Jail from the Faridkot jail recently.

After the incident took place, the district police sounded an alert. 

The escapee’s photo was flashed to each police station. Various teams were constituted to nab the accused.

Depity Superintendent of Policce (DSP) City 2 Karansher Singh said they were registering a case against the undertrial. 

The constable, who was with her, would also be booked for negligence.
