As the voices against Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu are growing louder in the state Congress over his veiled attack on Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh while campaigning for party nominee from Bathinda Parliamentary constituency Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on May 17, the latter has maintained a distance from the ongoing controversy.

Warring simply said he was unaware of what Sidhu said, so can’t make any comment on it. On Monday while replying to a query of reporters after the elections, Warring said, “I am not aware of what Sidhu said about Capt Amarinder Singh. They are two big leaders. Without reading or listening to any statement, it will be wrong for me to make any comment.”

On May 17, Sidhu had cornered the Congress government in the state over the issue of desecration and also questioned that why no FIR was lodged against the Badals in connection with the 2015 sacrilege and police firing incidents.

While addressing the public in chaste Punjabi, he had said, “Thok deyo ohna nu jihna ne beadbi kiti. Thok deyo ohna nu vi jehde ehna de naal rale hoye hai. Eh tusi thok sakde ho. Eh tusi kar sakde ho. Jihna ne 75:25 de hisse paaye hai. Ohna nu vi thok deyo…. Ehna nu pai jao. Jehde 75:25 de ehna naal saude karde hai ohna nu vi pai jao….“Main puchhunga sawaal ehna 75:25 hisse waleya to. Eh kehda friendly match hai bi chitte wale andar nahi ditte?”

Sidhu had even announced that he would resign if action was not taken against those behind the 2015 desecration incidents.

Thereafter, not just Capt Amarinder Singh, but some other ministers, too, have criticised Sidhu and sought action against him from the party high command.
