Bathinda, July 14

The water supply from the Rose Garden water works, which supply water to 10 tanks in the city, was stopped due to some technical fault.

Around 11 pm on Friday night, water supply to main the water tank stopped as it developed some technical snag in it, as a result of which residents did not get water supply.

The situation became worse when the water was not supplied through tankers on Saturday in trans-railway areas. It surprising that in outer areas of the city where water pipes had not been laid, in these areas MCB and Triveni company was providing drinking water through tankers, but for the last two months, the contract of the company, which was supplying water through tankers, had expired and this has not been renewed and even no tender has been floated till date.

As a result, people were left with no option but to bring water from far-off places in this hot and humid weather conditions.

Opening a front against poor water supply, Congress councillors Beant Singh Randhawa and Sherry Goyal on Saturday staged a protest and raised allegations against Triveni company for negligence in providing water to residents.

Even Lal Singh Basti residents also staged a protest by taking empty buckets in their hands over the non-supply of water through tankers.

MCB officials claimed that the fault was reported in the Rose Garden water works around 11 pm last night and to rectify that immediately workers reached the spot. The fault was repaired but thrice it again broke down due to some problem, but this afternoon it was fully repaired and the water supply was restored in the evening.

The areas which remained affected and did not get water supply were Gol Diggi, Mall Road, Amrik Singh road, Barnala road, Namdev road, Ganesha Nagar, Kamla Nehru colony, Paras Ram Nagar Teacher colony , Goniana road, Partap Nagar, Hans Nagar, Lal Singh Nagar, Amarpura Basti, Sanjay Nagar, Model Town, Veer Colony, Sukhpeer road, Sirki Bazaar and various other areas in the city.

However, officials of the MCB claimed that 30 per cent areas in the city were getting the water supply today.
