Patiala, April 17
During a checking conducted by the police — led by the Rajpura Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) — in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, 150 boxes of country-made liquor were seized near Gagan Chowk in Rajpura.
The police have arrested one person in this regard.
Rajpura Deputy Superintendent of Police Manpreet Singh said the liquor was recovered from a carrier on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Gandhi Colony.
The police said 1,800 bottles of English liquor made to be sold in Chandigarh were seized. The accused have been booked under Section 61/1/14 of the Excise Act.
Manpreet Singh said the police had informed officials of the Excise Department.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening, the police have seized Rs 1 crore from Rajpura.
Manpreet Singh said they would continue checking on the inter-state border, according to the guidelines of the State Election Commission and the Election Commission of India (ECI).
