Chandigarh: Two employees of a nightclub at Sector 7 were arrested by the local police after the club was found open beyond the permissible hours.

Chandigarh: Two employees of a nightclub at Sector 7 were arrested by the local police after the club was found open beyond the permissible hours. According to the police, during a surprise check, the club, Molecule Air Bar, was found open after the permissible hours on October 20. The police said the club management disobeyed the District Magistrate’s order following which a case was registered against club manager Sandeep Kumar and cashier Sunil Kumar under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the IPC at the Sector 26 police station. They were arrested and later released on bail. TNS 

Sec 28 resident held with heroin

Chandigarh: The operation cell of the UT police has arrested a Sector 28 resident with heroin. According to the police, Rahul Bardhan was nabbed from near the Community Centre at Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, with 10 gm of heroin. The police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act at the Mauli Jagran police station. TNS

Zirakpur cops arrest PO

Zirakpur: The local police on Monday nabbed a proclaimed offender (PO), identified as Krishan, a resident of Ram Darbar, Chandigarh. A case under various sections of the IPC was registered against him at the Zirakpur police station in 2013. He had been evading arrest ever since, following which he was declared a PO by court. The police said the accused was arrested following a tip-off. TNS

Baby among four hurt in accident

Chandigarh: Four persons, including a two-month-old child, suffered injuries after the auto they were travelling in was hit by a speeding car at the Sector 2/3/10/11 chowk here on October 19. According to the police, complainant Shiv Karan Singh, a resident of Nayagaon, reported that he, along with his wife and son Rishab, was travelling in an auto, which was hit by a car driven by Vikram Singh, a native of Jind district, Haryana. The police said the complainant, his family and auto driver Rameshwar suffered injuries in the mishap. All injured persons were admitted to the GMSH, Sector 16, from where the child was referred to the PGI. A case has been registered . TNS

Pankaj bowls LWCC to victory

Chandigarh: Livewire Coaching Centre (LWCC) defeated ICICI Home Finance by 42 runs in a Maa Tujhe Salaam T20 Tournament match here on Monday. Batting first, LWCC scored 189/5 in 20 overs. Harvinder Nain made a whirlwind 73, while Pankaj hit a brisk 37. Vikram added 25 runs to the LWCC total. Ankur Sood, Shubham Attri, Dheeraj Duggal, Harshdeep Singh and Vippan Arora claimed a wicket apiece. In reply, ICICI boys were bowled out for 147 runs in 17.5 overs. Pankaj was the pick of the bowlers for LWCC, claiming 4/15. Arun Luthra took 3/14. Vikram, Ayush and Harshul Vats picked a wicket each. Sunil Jain (44) was the top scorer for ICICI Home Finance. Parveer contributed 33 runs to the chase.  TNS

Ajay steers Hill Tigers home 

Chandigarh: Hill Tigers XI defeated Achievers Compitech by five wickets in a Champions Corporate Cricket League match here on Monday. Chasing 134 runs for victory, Hill Tigers cantered home in just 16.5 overs, with Ajay Negi smashing a strokeful 48. Gulshan Sharma made 27, while Akshay Tanta contributed 24 runs to the chase. Daman claimed two wickets, while Anirudh Bharadwaj and Sameer Aggarwal picked a wicket each. Earlier, Achievers Compitech had scored 133/7 in 20 overs. Vishal Modgill made 29, while Ravi Dhaliwal added 27 runs to the Compitech total. Rozal Batra chipped in with 24 runs. Akshay Tanta claimed two wickets, while Jagdeep and Sunny took a wicket apiece for Hill Tigers. TNS

Atul, balraj  claim top spots

Chandigarh: Nagpur’s Atul Mishra covered 615km in 25 hours and 45 minutes to lead the men’s (18-45 years) solo competition during the recently concluded Shivalik Signature Ultra Race. In the men’s 49+ age-group, Balraj Singh Chuhan of Hoshiarpur won the race in 27 hours and 53 minutes, while Pune’s Anjali Bhalinge topped the women’s 49+ competition with a timing of 30 hours and 13 minutes. Shivaik Signature Ultra Race is the qualifying event for the world’s toughest bicycle race — The Race Across America.  TNS

Quiz competition organised   

Chandigarh: UT Sports Department in association with the Sport Authority of India regional office organised a quiz competition for the trainees at the Sector 42 Sports Complex here on Monday to observe the Vigilance Awareness Week. Sports Director Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Director, Sports, Mahender Singh and SAI Regional Director Ajit Singh attended the event, during which the trainees were apprised of the role of honesty and integrity in their lives. The participants also took a pledge to lead honest life and weed out corruption from society. The winners of the quiz competition were later felicitated by the officials. TNS

Modi Jayanti celebrated 

Patiala: Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, on Monday. organised a havan to observe the 144th Modi Jayanti. A week-long academic and literary programmes and competitions were designed to pay tributes to Rai Bahadur Seth Multani Mal Modi. Management committee member Surindra Lal attended the ceremony. While remembering Rai Bahadur Seth Multani Mal Modi, the founder of the college, Principal Dr Khushvinder Kumar said society should be thankful for his visionary spirit.
