The UT Police on Saturday arrested two out of the three accused in three cases of snatching and robbery at knifepoint.

Ravi, a resident of Maloya, and Vinay, a resident of Mohali, were arrested for their involvement in three incidents that took place in Sector 12, 38 and 53 here on August 3. The police said both were drug addicts and committed the crime to support their addiction.

While Vinay is stated to be working at a car wash station, Rabi used to lift garbage. The third accused in these cases is absconding, as per the police.

The police have recovered an Activa scooter used in the crime, along with a knife and two mobile phones, from them. The accused used to target people using costly mobile phones and would threaten them at knifepoint.

After committing the crime, they went to Haridwar and Rishikesh for taking Kawar (jal), the police said.

The duo had a criminal record. During interrogation, the accused informed that they were earlier arrested in two quarrel cases in Mohali. The police said they were hopeful of making more recoveries once the third accused is arrested.

The recoveries

The police have recovered an Activa scooter used in the crime, along with a knife and two mobile phones, from the accused. They used to target people using costly mobile phones and would threaten them at knifepoint.
