Danish Rehman Sofi of Awantipura, another Kashmiri student who was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police in connection with his alleged terror links with the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) on Wednesday, was staying in Gulmohar City, a housing society in Dera Bassi, said the police.

Gurmeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Jalandhar, while speaking to The Tribune on Friday evening, said the accused, Danish Rehman and Sohail Ahmad Bhatt, both natives of Awantipura, JK, are mutual friends with the three already arrested Kashmiri students - Zahid Gular, Mohammad Idrish Shah, alias Nazeem, and Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt. All of them were in touch with each other through social media, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said Danish was the roommate of Sohail, and both were residing in a flat at Gulmohar City, Dera Bassi. Both were pursuing BTech from the Universal Group of Institutions at Lalru. Sohail Bhatt, a native of Awantipura, is believed to be the closest associate of AGH head Zakir Rashid Bhat, also known as Zakir Musa. He was arrested on October 11 and is already undergoing 10-day police remand in Jalandhar.

It is pertinent to mention here that a team of the police led by DSP Tejinder Pal Singh on Tuesday conducted a search operation in a flat at Gulmohar City, Dera Bassi, where Sohail was putting up in a rented accommodation. However, during search operation, the police team could not find any weapon or explosive from his room.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said Danish is a third-year student of Computer Engineering (BTech) at the Universal Group of Institutions, Lalru. He was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police and was handed over to the Jalandhar police on Thursday. The police have procured four-day police remand of Danish and he would be interrogated for further revelations, said Gurmeet.

A terror module was busted on October 10 with the arrest of three Kashmiri students - Zahid Gulzar, Mohammed Idris Shah, alias Nadeem, and Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt - linked to the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH). The students were nabbed from the hostel of the CT Institute of Engineering Management and Technology at Shahpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar. Two weapons, including an assault rifle, and explosives, were recovered from them.
