A local court today sentenced a 23-year-old man to 10-year imprisonment for possessing 20 banned injections. The court also directed the convict, Sunny, a resident of Mohali, to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

As per the FIR in the case, on September 21, 2017, a police team was patrolling in Sector 56 here. When the police reached near the Green Park turn around 6.05 pm, they saw a man approaching towards them. He was stated to be holding a polybag in his right hand.

On seeing the police, the convict tried to flee. However, the police managed to stop him. Sunny tried to throw away the polybag, but a policeman took it from him. Upon checking, the police recovered 10 injections of buprenorphine and pheniramine malaete each.

Sunny could not produce a valid licence or permit for carrying the injections. Following this, he was arrested and a case was registered against him under Section 22 of the NDPS Act.
