3 sweets manufacturers put on notice in Mohali

MOHALI: After finding honeybees, flies and insects in some sweets, a team of the Food and Drug Administration of the Health Department issued notices to three sweets manufacturers at Balongi village here today.

After finding honeybees, flies and insects in some sweets, a team of the Food and Drug Administration of the Health Department issued notices to three sweets manufacturers at Balongi village here today.

According to members of the team, the sweets were being prepared in unhygienic conditions at these units. The team also collected samples of various products from the units.

According to a member of the team, sweets and other bakery items were being prepared with the material in which dead and alive insects were found.

“The material was found lying on dirty floor and foul smell was emanating from these units,” said the official, adding that workers were also seen wearing dirty clothes.

“Notices have been issued to these manufacturers. Dirty material has been destroyed”, said the official, adding that these units supply their material to shops in Mohali and Kharar. — TNS
