A 34-year-old man was electrocuted after coming in contact with the shutter of a showroom in Sector 44 this afternoon. The showroom has been lying closed for sometime.

Sources said the victim had been identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 45. He was a night watchman at the Mini-Secretariat, Punjab, in Sector 9.

The police said the victim was alcoholic and he was in an inebriated condition when the incident took place. “The victim’s uncle told us that they took liquor outside a showroom in the Sector 44 market. When they were leaving, the victim fainted and his head hit the shutter of the showroom following which he got electrocuted,” said a police official.

The police were informed about the incident. The victim was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

“The showroom has been lying closed for sometime and it is suspected that there was current in the shutter due to which the victim got electrocuted,” the police said. The Electricity Department has been informed about the incident.

The police have also initiated an investigation into the matter at the Sector 34 police station.

“We will establish whose negligence led to the incident,” said a police official.

The victim is survived by his wife and two children.
