The police have booked five travel agents for duping a resident of Jind of Rs 22.50 lakh on the pretext of sending his brothers to Armenia and providing them work permit there. The complainant, Manoj Kumar, alleged that he had paid Rs 22.50 lakh to the accused but they neither sent his brothers abroad nor returned the money.
A case of fraud and cheating was registered at the Phase 1 police station, but no arrest has been made so far. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Davinder Singh, a resident of Phase 1, Mohali; Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Ganga Nagar; Mandeep Kaur, a resident of Ganga Nagar; Gurmail Singh and Mangu Singh.
The victim in his complaint stated that he approached the travel agents as his brothers wanted to go abroad and he had paid the said amount for starting the process. He alleged that the accused also promised them to provide work permit in Armenia.
However, instead of providing them visa, the accused started avoiding him. He visited their office on several occasions, but all in vain. The police said they had registered a case against the accused under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and Section 24 of the Immigration Act.
