7 booked for immigration fraud

Cases under the Human Smuggling Act and cheating on the pretext of sending people abroad have continuously been pouring in the city. 

The police here have registered two cases for cheating and dishonesty after two residents of the city complained that they were duped of Rs 17.22 lakh and 13 lakh, respectively, on the basis of sending them abroad. 

In the first case Mandeep Singh of Shadipur village stated to the police that the accused identified as Gurmeet Singh, Lovepreet Singh and Balwinder Singh, all residents of Bhinder Colony, Samana, and Meeto of Khanpur Gadhiyan village duped his brother Dhanwant Singh and relative Gurvinder Singh of Rs 13 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. 

The accused did not send them abroad and also did not return their money, he added. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonesty) and 120-B (Party to a criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

In another case, Ratan Anmol of Urban Estate told the police that the accused identified as Sukhdev Singh of Muktsar Sahib, besides Thana Singh and Veerpal Kaur of Moga took Rs 17.22 lakh from him and his wife for sending them abroad. They kept delaying the process and ultimately did not return the money nor did they send them abroad, the complainant said. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 420 (Cheating and dishonesty), 120-B (Party to a criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act.
