Family members of the 70-year-old Aashabai Ramdas Kadam were happy when the Chandigarh police brought her to Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) on Friday.

Aashabai was found by Head Constable Umed Singh at Bapu Dham Colony a few days ago. The septuagenarian could not tell her address to police officials. She was produced before the SDM of the area concerned, who ordered her stay at the Senior Citizens Home, Sector 15, Chandigarh.

Aashabai came to Senior Citizens Home on July 26, 2018. The staff members at the facility did their best to provide her a homely atmosphere by catering to her basic needs, including food, clothing and shelter, but due to language barrier, Aashabai could not understand the local dialect used in Chandigarh. The staff was not able to understand her language.

It was welfare and rehabilitation-cum-placement officer Manish Dhakad, who deciphered Aashabai’s language as Marathi. After detailed conversation at regular intervals, Dhakad traced the whereabouts of senior citizen to Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra.

He immediately contacted the Women and Child Development Department of Ahmednagar district. With constant coordination and follow up, the home traceability report was sent by the Women and Child Development Department of Ahmednagar district and Aashabai was handed over to her relatives on Friday.

Dhakad said the woman seemed to be somewhat mentally disturbed and reached Chandigarh by train.
