Chirag of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has been elected as the president of the students’ union at Government Post Graduate College (GPGC), Sector 1, here. He was elected through a toss.
At the Government PG College for Women, Sector 14, Independent candidate Pooja has unanimously been elected as president while Mamta Sharma as vice-president, Deepti as general Secretary and Navneet as secretary.
Voting was held in the morning. A total of 124 candidates were in the fray for the 35 posts of class representative in both colleges.
In GPGC-1, a total of 34 class representatives cast their votes to elect the president. After the counting of votes, there was a tie.
The election committee of the college decided to hold a toss in order to elect the present. In the toss, Chirag of the ABVP emerged as the winner.
Other successful members are Gurjant (vice-president), Amit Rana (general secretary) and Sapna (joint secretary).
Five other executive members are Happy, Sandeep Kumar, Karan, Bhupender Singh and Gaurav Kumar
The NSUI, INSO and SFI had decided to boycott the elections in various colleges. The students were demanding direct elections to the students’ bodies in educational institutions. They said the state government was trying to provide a backdoor entry to the ABVP by holding indirect elections.
