Patiala, February 22

After The Tribune highlighted various issues being faced by visitors at the Crafts Mela, the district administration conducted a surprise checking on Friday.

The administration assured the visitors a strict action against violators.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parry, who is also in-charge of the mela, conducted a surprise inspection. Shaukat said: “I have checked all parking areas near the mela and found that all were charging as per the stipulated rates, as directed by the administration.”

He said parking contractors would charge Rs 10 for two-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheelers.

“We have asked them to display the parking rates prominently at the sites,” Parry added.

The ADC also reviewed the fire safety arrangements. He said they had also checked all food stalls at the Crafts Mela. He said:“Except a few of them, a majority of the stalls were taking proper care of the cleanliness aspect.”
