All-round Amritsar beat Mohali

CHANDIGARH:An all-round display helped hosts Amritsar beat Mohali by three wickets in a reduced Punjab Inter-District Championship match at Gandhi Grounds on Monday.

An all-round display helped hosts Amritsar beat Mohali by three wickets in a reduced Punjab Inter-District Championship match at Gandhi Grounds on Monday.      

Put into bat, Mohali made 207/9 after the match was reduced to 42 overs a side due to overnight rain.     

Mohali batsmen failed to build on their starts and lost wickets at regular intervals. 

Abhijeet Garg, Mayank Sidhu and Gurkeerat Mann made useful contributions to the total but none of them converted their starts to propel the visitors to a competitive total. While Garg was out after scoring a patient 54, Sidhu fell on 42. Mann was dismissed for 32 runs.

For the hosts, Abhinav Sharma, Vinay Chaudhary and Rohit Kumar scalped two wickets each.

Needing to score at just under five runs per over for victory, Amritsar limped home in the last over of the match with just three wickets to spare.      

The side was helped by some decent contributions from Rohan Marwaha (52), Arush Sabharwal (44) and India U-19 start Abhishek Sharma (39).  

Harpreet Brar was the most effective bowler for Mohali, claiming 3/41. Varun Khanna took 2/35.

Nikhil helps Ludhiana win

At Jathedar Santok Singh Margind Sewa Committee Stadium in Ludhiana, Nikhil Chaudhary and Kashish shared six wickets between them before Nehal Wadhera hit a brisk 42 to shepherd the hosts to a five-wicket win over Bathinda.  

Batting first, Bathinda were bowled out for 79 runs in 25.3 overs as Nikhil and Kashish hunted in a pair. Mahavir Singh offered some resistance to the Ludhiana attack with a 34-run knock but failed to get enough support from the other end. 

Nikhil returned with figures of 3/23, while Kashish took 3/26. Sukhjinder bagged 2/16.

Ludhiana, in reply, romped home in 11.2 overs on the back of Wadhera’s  42-run knock. Nikhil Chaudhary contributed 30 runs to the chase. However, the hosts lost five wickets in the cause. Sukhminder Singh claimed 3/27, while Harjot Singh got 2/3 for Bathinda.

Rahul powers Jalandhar

Hosts Jalandhar, meanwhile, beat Gurdaspur by 86 runs in a rain-truncated match at the Burlton Park.  

Batting first, Jalandhar scored a modest 168/9 in 42 overs with Himanshu Sharma  hitting a patient 36. Mohit Singh (2/37) and Madhav Pathania (2/31) bagged two wickets each for the visitors.

In reply, Gurdaspur were all out for  82 runs in 28.2 overs as  Rahul Sharma-led Jalandhar attack ran through their batting line-up.   

Rahul was the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts, claiming 4/29. Raghu Sharma took 3/18, while Prerit Dutta returned with figures of 2/6.

Patiala, Chandigarh share points

Hosts Patiala and Chandigarh shared two points each after the match between the two sides was abandoned due to rain at Dhruv Pandove Stadium. Batting first, Chandigarh were 86/3 in 18 overs when heavy rain stopped the play. Manan Vohra made 25 runs while Jaskaran Sohi remained unbeaten on 31. Sanvir Singh picked all the three wickets to fall in the Chandigarh innings.
