Ambala, December 1
The police have booked a man for the embezzlement of Rs 31.73 lakh at a fuel pump in Ambala. The suspect has been identified as Ashish, a resident of Ambala Cantonment.
Sandeep Rana, owner of the fuel pump, in his complaint, stated that the suspect had been working at his pump as a manager for the past several years. While checking the accounts books on August 5, he came to know about the embezzlement of money as the manager had been changing the sales figures.
The complainant alleged that when confronted, Ashish confessed that he had done embezzlement of Rs 10 lakh and assured to return the money. However, on August 8, during the further audit of the accounts, the owner came to know that Ashish had embezzled Rs 31.73 lakh. The suspect was questioned in the presence of his family and panchayat members and he confessed the same.
In a panchayat, it was decided that the suspect will return Rs 12 lakh on November 5 to settle the matter. If he failed to return the money, legal action will be initiated against him and he will have to pay Rs 32 lakh.
On November 5, the suspect had given a cheque for Rs 1.50 lakh. When the cheque was produced in a bank, it got dishonoured as the signature of the suspect didn’t match. Later, the suspect allegedly denied to return the money. A case has been registered under Sections 406, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC at the Ambala Sadar police station.
