An all-round show by Anjali Dhiman and Chammi helped Punjab beat Gujarat by 52 runs in their opening match of the Senior National Women’s Cricket Championship at Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, here, on Tuesday.
Batting first, Punjab rode on openers Anjali and Chammi’s knocks to score 182/9 in the allotted 30 overs. While Anjali made a brisk 66, Chammi added 40 runs to the total.
The duo later shared five wickets between them to bundle out Gujarat for 130 runs in 26.3 overs to steer Punjab to a comfortable 52-run victory in the series opener.
For Gujarat, Usha Thakar scored 35 runs and Komal Chhaya made 25. Chami returned with figures of 3/33, while Anjali took 2/22.
J&K beat MP
In another match, Jammu & Kashmir, aided by some tight bowling from Heena and Bushra, registered a 48-run win over Madhya Pradesh.
Batting first J&K were all out for 124 runs in 20 overs. Harshali (2/7) and Shalika (2/21) picked two wickets each for Madhya Pradesh, while Meenu Slathir was the top scorer for J&K with 33 runs. Sapna Jamwal added a useful 18 to the total.
Left to defend a modest total, J&K bowlers struck at regular intervals to bowl out Madhya Pradesh for just 76 runs.
Heena (2/5) and Bushra (2/8) claimed two wickets each for J&K.
