Armand David wins inter-college debate

CHANDIGARH: A tricity inter-college debate was organised at the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, here on Tuesday.

A tricity inter-college debate was organised at the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, here on Tuesday. The topic of the debate was ‘Doctors have no role in healthcare?’

A total of 14 teams from various colleges participated in the competition. The first prize was won by Armand David from DAV College, Sector 10, while Gurmehak Kaur Grewal from PGGCG, Sector 11, won the second prize and Sumiran Sharma, PGGCG, Sector 42, bagged the third prize.

The objective of the debate was to make the participants aware of a healthy lifestyle and to reduce the role of doctors, medicines and medical tests by 80 per cent.

The debate was organised under the aegis of an NGO, SPEAK India, and Society for Promotion of Ethical and Affordable Health Care.

Eye specialist Dr R Kumar, who is the president of the Society for Promotion of Ethical and Affordable Health Care, was the principal speaker.

He said, “The focus has to be shifted from the care of the sick to the care of healthy population so that they don’t fall sick. While India cannot afford the luxury of medical or surgical treatment, the only option is to go for preservation of health by following healthy habits and proper lifestyle.”
