The Department of Art History and Visual Arts at Panjab University has decided to hold an orientation programme for new students from this session.

Dr Tirthankar Bhattacharya, chairman of the department, said, “We will start an orientation programme for new students so that they can be acquainted with the course of next four semesters. There are many job opportunities available after doing this course in India as well as abroad.”

“Students who completed their MA in History of Art have found placements in the teaching profession. The students have also been successfully placed in private firms that deal with the documentation of art works in art galleries. They have been engaged in various curatorial projects in prestigious institutions and private art galleries. After a degree in History of Art, some have pursued careers in writing for newspapers and journals as art critics. The students also have gone on to get admission in universities overseas for further studies and research,” he added.

The department regularly showcases art works of eminent artistes of both international and national level in the galleries of the Museum of Fine Arts. Upcoming artistes get an opportunity to showcase their art works.
