Several internal roads in the town continue to give nightmares to residents as the authorities concerned are yet to undertake repair and recarpeting work.

Potholes and broken stretches on roads are making it tough for the motorists to drive in such poor conditions. Residents rued that not only recarpeting, work on rough patches and broken stretches had also been delayed.

In July, the state government had decided to give a facelift to the road infrastructure, including the link roads. An amount of Rs 50 crore had also been sanctioned for widening, strengthening and upgrade of roads in Dera Bassi. Speculations are if the authorities concerned have received the grant or the government is yet to release the funds. Residents are vexed with bumpy stretches on the Singhpura-Nagla road. The stretch is uneven and full of mud and pebbles, making it unsafe for motorists. On September 8, a major tragedy was averted when a school bus driver lost control over his vehicle, which skidded off the road due to slush on the stretch. Similarly, replete with deep pits and potholes, the Zirakpur-Kalka stretch is turning out to be a nightmare for residents. Due to incessant rains, the Zirakpur-Kalka stretch had developed potholes. This has made driving nearly impossible, said Anuj, a shopkeeper.

Meanwhile, MC officials said recarpeting would start probably by next week.
