Biometric attendance system in Punjab hospitals soon: Minister

MOHALI: To ensure punctuality of medical staff, hospitals run by the state government would soon have biometric attendance system, announced Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Brahm Mohindra during his public address at the district-level Independence Day function at Government College in Phase 6 here on Wednesday.

To ensure punctuality of medical staff, hospitals run by the state government would soon have biometric attendance system, announced Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Brahm Mohindra during his public address at the district-level Independence Day function at Government College in Phase 6 here on Wednesday.

“Besides, a total of 306 doctors will be recruited soon for government hospitals,” said Brahm Mohindra, adding that the project of setting up a medical college and hospital in Mohali would take shape soon.

Earlier, Brahm Mohindra hoisted the Tricolour and inspected the guard of honour. He took salute from the parade by contingents of Punjab Police and NCC cadets.

Addressing the gathering, the minister asserted that Punjab would soon become drug-free state as anti-drug campaign was being run in the state with full vigour.

The minister also launched the state government’s anti-drug programme, ‘Buddy’, in the district by presenting badges to students of schools and colleges.

The minister also announced Rs 5 lakh for the welfare of girl students in Mohali district.

While touching on the state government’s various achievements, the Congress leader claimed that Mohali would soon be known as medical hub of the region.

Meanwhile, students of schools and colleges presented a cultural programme on the occasion. Tableaux of health department against drugs, agriculture department and forest department on ‘Mission Tandarust Punjab’, traffic police on traffic rules and the Verka milk plant were the main attractions of the programme.

The minister also felicitated two freedom fighters, Swarn Singh Jhajjon and Gurdeep Singh of Jhajjon village by presenting them ‘shawls’. Besides, as many as 20 persons, including government officials, sportsperson and social workers, were given commendation certificates for their meritorious services.

As many as five farmers were honoured for not burning stubble in their fields.

Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were NS Kalsi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home & Justice, Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, Mohali Deputy Commissioner, SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal and Civil Surgeon Rita Bhardwaj.
