A book titled ‘Gender, Culture and Honour: a Gender Audit of Punjab and Haryana’ authored by Prof Rajesh Gill was released at a function held at ICSSR, Panjab University, on Saturday.
Justice Daya Chaudhary was the chief guest who denounced the prevailing practice of measuring girls on the scale of boys. She cited several examples of eulogising the male culture, eventually eroding the feminine culture. Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, guest of honour, narrated a few court cases wherein stark realities of violence against young women came to light. She called for the need to reach out to women in distress. — TNS
