The police have arrested the driver of a cab, which fell into a drain along Airport Road near Shaheed Udham Singh Colony on the intervening night of October 14 and 15 here.

Pal Chand, a middle-aged man, was killed while his relatives, including his real younger brother Somnath, had sustained injuries in the mishap.

Inspector Manphul Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Balongi police station, said they had arrested the driver identified as Karkirat Singh (25), a resident of Fazilka.

“According to the cab driver, one of the tyres burst while they were on their way from Zirakpur to Sunny Enclave at Kharar around 1.15 am on Monday. Following this, he lost control over the vehicle and the car fell into the drain,” said inspector Manphul Singh.
