Cabbie killed, six hurt as car, SUV collide

Chandigarh, May 18

The driver of an Uber taxi was killed and six others were injured in a collision with an SUV here late on Friday night.

According to information, a Thar, which was allegedly being driven at a high speed, hit the cab near the Kiran Cinema light point in Sector 22.

The driver, Navdeep Singh (28), a resident of Lalru, and three other passengers of the taxi, identified as Bhavya, Jyoti and Akhilesh, along with three male occupants of the Thar suffered injuries in the mishap. At the time of the incident, Navdeep was going to drop the passengers at Mohali.

On getting information, the police reached the stop and rushed the injured to a hospital where Navdeep succumbed to his injuries. The three occupants of the Thar were discharged after first aid.

The Thar driver had managed to escape from the spot.

The police registered a case and started investigation.
