Chandigarh tops in GST return compliance, again

The Excise and Taxation Department, Chandigarh, has once again topped the country in the GST 3B monthly tax return compliance rating with average 95.05 per cent among all states and UTs in the first 8 months for the financial year 2019-2020.

This has been revealed in the latest report of the GST collection and compliances released recently.

Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar said it was ensured that maximum dealers filed the returns under the GST law. The city has around 18,500 registered dealers.

Punjab with 89 per cent stood second, while Gujarat remained third with 87 per cent.

Brar said the department had also witnessed an increase of over 20.80 per cent in the revenue in November 2019 in comparison to the collection last year. The Administration has collected Rs 135.74 crore in November, while it collected Rs 112.37 crore in the same month last year.

The overall collection of revenue in the past 8 months had also witnessed an increase by 12.06 per cent.

Sources said that the department has now started identifying the dealers who failed to file the returns. GST registration numbers will be cancelled who failed to file the returns for more than past six months.

Brar has directed the officials of the department to achieve the target of up to 99 per cent GST return compliance.

RK Chaudhary, Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, said the department would now intensify the drive to check the dealers who failed to deposit the tax in time.
