City girls face HP in football opener, Punjab meet Mizoram

CHANDIGARH:Chandigarh girls will face Himachal Pradesh in their opening match of the Hero Junior Girls’ National Football Championship, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Sunday.

Chandigarh girls will face Himachal Pradesh in their opening match of the Hero Junior Girls’ National Football Championship, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Sunday. Chandigarh has been placed in Group G along with Himachal and hosts Maharashtra. 

Meanwhile, Punjab will take on Mizoram in their Group H opener tomorrow and will lock horns with Kerala on April 23. They will face Andhra Pradesh in their last group match on April 25.  

Chandigarh is scheduled to meet the hosts on April 25.

On Saturday, Haryana registered a 9-0 win over Karnataka in a Group D encounter. Rajni Bala scored four goals, while skipper Raveena found the back of the net thrice. 

Jharkhand steamrolled Jammu and Kashmir 21-0, with Sumati Kumari notching up five goals and Astam Oraon, Anu Radha Kumari and Priya Kumari scoring a hat-trick apiece. 

Defending champions Tamil Nadu registered a 5-0 win over Madhya Pradesh. M Saritha and Mariyammal B scored a brace each, while Priyadharshini S struck once.

Manipur blanked Uttarakhand 4-0, while Goa beat Tripura 3-1. West Bengal humbled Arunachal Pradesh 1-0.
