Chandigarh women failed to make an impression on the opening day of the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship (Central Zone) in Indore on Thursday as none of the three participants failed to make it to the main draw.

While Vibhuti Bhardwaj lost all her three group matches to finish at the bottom of the heap, Deevanshi Chawla suffered a 2-3 0-3 0-3 humiliation to crash out of the tournament. Naina Suri also lost all her three group matches.

Mixed day for Haryana

Haryana’s Suhana Saini finished second in her group to make the cut for the main draw. The 12-year-old, who is ranked sixth in the sub-junior category, lost her opening match to Maria Rony before getting a walkover against Andhra Pradehs’s Praneetha Challa. She humbled Aru Vaishnava 3-2 in her last group match to finish a point behind table topper Maria, who bagged six points.

Another Haryana paddler, Sanya Sehgal made it to the main draw after winning two off her three group matches.
