The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has taken up the work to replace all conventional street lights and garden lights with LED lights to facilitate the city with better illumination and to conserve the electrical energy.
Commissioner KK Yadav, along with MC Chief Engineer Manoj Bansal, and representatives of EESL Company, inspected garden lights at a park on Saturday. He inspected the sample of globe lights at the Sector 19-B park and checked their illumination.
The Commissioner instructed the Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, MC, to visit the factory and carry out necessary inspections and tests on lights. He also inspected 120W LED lights on Purv Marg. The street lights have been fitted with dimmable features so that the illumination level is reduced by 10 per cent after midnight till 4.30 am.
The Commissioner said approximately all 42,000 conventional street lights in the city had already been replaced with LED lights and now EESL had started replacing about 8,000 garden lights. — TNS
