Complainant cooked up robbery story, say police

CHANDIGARH: The police today claimed that a robbery complaint on May 9 was a concocted story.

Chandigarh, May 18

The police today claimed that a robbery complaint on May 9 was a concocted story.

In a complaint to police, Abdul Raheem, a resident of Raipur Khurd village, had stated that on May 9, three persons beat him up with wooden sticks and punched him before robbing him of his purse containing Rs 15,000, a silver chain and a gold earring. The complainant had also alleged that they broke his mobile phone.

On his complaint, a case under Section 394 of the IPC was registered at the Station 39 police station.

The police said call details and locations of the complainant’s mobile phone were obtained and scrutinised. During verification, his location was found in Saketri village in Panchkula at the time of the alleged incident. When he was questioned about it, he confessed that he went to Saketri to meet his girlfriend where he was beaten up by her neighbours, following which he concocted a story.

The police said Raheem’s statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC before the court and the case has been sent for cancellation. — TNS
