Chandigarh, April 22

It is not for the first time that the traffic cop, who was seen kicking a person in a video, has courted a controversy. In 2016, a similar video of him slapping a woman and her minor daughter had gone viral leaving the UT police embarrassed.

On April 11, a couple and a man were booked by the local police for allegedly manhandling Sub-Inspector Ranjit Singh of the traffic wing over wrong parking in Sector 34. Two of them, Ranjit Jha and Dilkush Jha, were arrested in the case. They were released on bail on April 13.

Ranjit reportedly had an argument with the police for “wrongly challaning” a motorist.

However, an eyewitness had made a video of the incident that went viral in which the cop is seen kicking and manhandling one of the suspects. A few days later, SI Ranjit Singh was promoted to the rank of inspector (ORP).

Interestingly, the cop is not new to controversy.

While he was an ASI posted at the Sector 31 police station in 2016, a video of him slapping a woman and her daughter had gone viral. An elderly couple, who owned a plot in Hallo Majra, had complained to the police that the woman and her daughter stopped them from constructing a wall on the plot. Cops went to the spot to resolve the issue where the mother-daughter duo resisted after which they were allegedly slapped by Ranjit Singh.

The woman and her daughter were also booked at the Sector 31 police station.

An eyewitness had made a video of the incident. The clip went viral, following which an inquiry was marked into the incident.
