Chandigarh, December 4

The owner of Ind Swift, who was arrested for tax evasion yesterday, was produced in court today and sent to police remand for two days.

The police claimed that the suspect, Nav Rattan Munjal, had to be interrogated to know about another suspect, Ankit Aggarwal. Besides, they also wanted to know the names and designations of officials of the Excise and Taxation Department who helped Munjal secure forged and fabricated VAT assessment order.

The police said the forged assessment order depicted the liability of the suspect’s company to be Rs 11,000 whereas the dues were Rs 5.09 crore.

The police said the suspect was well aware that the demand notice of VAT to the tune of Rs 5.09 crore could not be settled for mere Rs 11,000 and knowingly used forged VAT assessment orders to cheat the taxation department.

The police said the liasoning agent, Ankit Aggarwal, who, in allurement  of money, had procured forged VAT assessment orders dated March 31,  2015, with the involvement of taxation officials was yet to be arrested.

The police had requested a three-day police remand of the suspect.  However, the court granted them only two days to interrogate the  suspect.

Defence counsel Terminder Singh said the suspect’s police remand was not required since challan had already been filed and all documents were already in the possession of the police.
