Cycle rally on HIV/AIDS

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society organised a cycle rally on Sunday.



Chandigarh: Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society organised a cycle rally on Sunday. It started from Sukhna Lake and ended at the office of the society in Sector 15.  Over 250 cyclists from the city participated in the event. The participants belonged to all walks of life, including women and children. The youngest cyclist was a seven-year-old child. College students formed the bulk of the cyclists at the rally.  The participants had decorated their cycles in a way that gave the message, “Know AIDS for no AIDS”, motivating people to come forward and gather correct knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Placards with suitable messages were also displayed by the cyclists. Cars with banners as well as an ambulance followed the cyclists for their safety. HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases are most prevalent in the age-group of 15 to 39 years. TNS    

Man held with liquor bottles

Kharar: The police have arrested Lakhvir Singh, a resident of Mamupur village, following the recovery of 12 bottles of liquor from his possession. Head constable Mohan Lal got a tip-off that the accused used to bring liquor from Chandigarh at a cheaper rate and further sell it in the area. The police arrested Lakhvir from the Kharar bus stand. A case has been registered against the accused under the Excise Act. OC

Seven tippers impounded

Kharar: The Mullanpur Garibdas police have impounded seven tippers illegally loaded with sand, etc. While giving information, Mullanpur Garibdas SHO Rajesh Hastir on Sunday said mining officer Daljit Singh laid a naka near the Siswan T-point in the wee hours of Saturday. The mining officer informed the police that illegal mining was going on. The police reached the spot. After seeing the police party, drivers ran away from the spot leaving behind tippers. The police have impounded the tippers after registering a case under the Mining Act. OC
