A resident of Nangal, Himachal Pradesh, lost Rs 75,000 to two fraudsters who allegedly swapped his debit card at an ATM booth in Balongi village here late on Tuesday night.
In his complaint to the police, the victim, Rishab, said he had visited the ATM booth around 5 pm. Two youths were already present there. He said he withdrew Rs 10,000 and inserted the card again to withdraw another Rs 10,000. However, the keys of the machine got stuck and he was not able to get the cash. He said the two youths offered help and succeeded in taking out the money.
The complainant said when he reached home, he got a message at 11.53 pm that Rs 25,000 had been withdrawn and later, he got two more messages about Rs 50,000 having been withdrawn from his account. He said he immediately checked his debit card and found that the accused had swapped the card while taking it out of the machine.
Balongi SHO Manphool Singh said they had received the complaint and were trying to get the CCTV footage from the spot. He said they had registered a case against the unidentified youths and started an investigation into it.
