Dera Bassi, October 21
To keep an eye on anti-social elements and to prevent any untoward incident in the ongoing festive season, the Dera Bassi police today started a special drive to check security measures at paying guest (PG) accommodations across the city.
Following the directives of Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal, various teams under the supervision of Dera Bassi SHO Mohinder Singh checked over 80 PG accommodations across the city. The cops also checked identity cards of those residing in PGs.
The police also searched rooms and cupboards at the PGs. However, no objectionable material was recovered during the search operation, said the police.
The cops also spoke to inmates at the PGs and their owners. They educated them about the prevention of crime by ensuring certain security measures. The team members also asked the landlords to get proper verification of all tenants.
Dera Bassi SHO Mohinder Singh said the drive was conducted to check outsiders in PGs. “We verified the particulars of youths to establish their purpose of stay,” he said.
The SHO said the drive was aimed at ensuring the safety of PG inmates. The police would conduct surprise checks throughout the festive season to ensure that PG owners are complying with the rules.
Giving details about the special drive, Mohinder Singh said those staying in PGs were asked to fill in details in the tenant verification form.
The police have also increased night vigil, laid nakas and intensified patrolling throughout the city. The police have been asked to remain on their toes till the end of the festive season.
No objectionable material found
