The police have arrested a 34-year-old convict and his alleged woman accomplice — Kavita (29) — here on Friday. He had earlier escaped from the court after his conviction in an NDPS case.

The police nabbed Baldev Singh, alias Balli, a resident of Sector 41, and Kavita, alias, Kanika, a resident of Matour, at a naka near bus stop on the road dividing Sector 54/55 when they were coming to Chandigarh from Mohali in a car. The police recovered 7-gm heroin from Baldev and 5-gm from Kavita.

A case under the NDPS Act against both accused was registered. On Saturday, they were produced in a local court which sent them to judicial custody.

Baldev had escaped on April 3 this year when he was held guilty in a case registered against him under the NDPS Act at the Sector 39 police station in February last year. The police said both accused were drug addicts.— TNS
